Wanting for nothing!

February 29, 2012

This has been a really strange but ultimately good winter in NEPA (North-East Pennsylvania). I mean it has barely snowed, and there have even been 50 degree days. INSANE for this time of year here.

However the forecast for today was SNOW and it is supposed to go into tomorrow. As I was driving to my class it was coming down. As I sat in class with the window behind me, you can the falling flakes fill the sky, then the ground. I started to think of ALL my plans for today and how I know some people would cancel because of a little snow. I also thought of how weather which is a variable in my daily plans  can affect one way or another things I have to do.

Then I jumped into the word of God as if I was leaping into a pile of snow and read this.

Psalms 34:8-10
Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good!
Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!
Oh, fear the Lord, you his saints,
for those who fear him have no lack!
The young lions suffer want and hunger;
but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.

When you have true security in life, variables shouldn’t be able to through you. If you understand that God gives you want you need and is providing for you, then you will not worry about “details”. By this I don’t mean you travel through life without planning or anything like that. What I DO mean is that you will be able to take refuge knowing that God is in control and will provide for His people.

This is what makes (not only this by the way) the Lord good, but you have to taste/try/trust/partake of Him to find out.

How has God been good in your life today? How has He provided and not let you go without?

Family Time!

February 25, 2012

You ever feel like you are always doing something? I mean that you’re really BUSY! Life and all its demands, or even if you’re just accomplishing your various goals.

Well I am definitely feeling my days run together and busier than ever. SO with this weight of getting things done I had to spend time making sure I had the right priorities. This naturally is a tough thing to do. I say that because EVERYTHING is important right? Well that’s how I fell anyway. However I am learning that although things may be important they are not all equally urgent. SO I need to make sure that the top thing on my list is Always important and ALWAYS! urgent.

That is my family. There are many things that I do, and time can easily get away from me. However there is one person I need to invest in, if there is one relationship I need secure, that’s with my wife. In one aspect she is my best friend. I can share my fears and be vulnerable in front of her. On the other hand she is a helper in ways that extend beyond friendship.

Now I am not just trying to write about my wife which I can do anytime. BUT I am really highlighting making the choice of the most important thing (in reality it would be things and making sure I always invest in those).

My family is that most important thing. There are times in which a few things may come up and I need to withdraw from my family’s creditably bank BUT if I haven’t made any deposits that I will be impacting my account in a negative way. What I mean is that every time I reassure my family that I am willing to spend time and invest in her, then when I need to take a moment away she has the confidence that I am good for it.

So basically I am rethinking my priorities and once again Family takes the cake (Not that I assumed it would be any different). How about you? What would some of your top priorities be? Are you investing in them every day?

The NEW workout…

February 21, 2012

You ever find yourself wanting to do something BUT always putting it off? You make excuses time and time again but never really get around to doing whatever it is.

Well I’ve been there time and time again.

Seven years ago I was completely into “being healthy”. I saw a dietitian, formed and stuck to a strict diet, and was working out (a mixture of strength training and cardio) six days a week.

It was tough… and clearly it didn’t last.

NOW my wife has been working out for a little over two months. She is doing great! I am so proud of her. She is doing so well she ended up joining our local YMCA….. Her joining meant I joined  :( … Not sure how that still worked out yet but it has.

However this is a NEW workout plan. People who don’t workout and make excuses to put it off usually lack motivation.

This time is different though. The goal isn’t to lose weight, or become stronger. Those are good goals by the way. For us we decided to make our goal to just be healthier.

This NEW workout isn’t just for my body but it’s so that I can become a healthier person all around as I make better choices.

The key here is making better choices. We make decisions because of a number of factors. When is the last time you found yourself making a series of better choices? The opportunity to grow involves making better choices than you have in the past. If you constantly live with goals that lack passion and motivation then it is hard to truly enjoy life.

So my NEW workout is more than just physical. Don’t get me wrong. Anytime I come from the gym, my body hurts and I’m tired. BUT I am doing my best in all areas of life to make better choices that will allow me to live and enjoy life.
